Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about washing, drying and getting the most out of your local Blue Hippo laundromat.
Using the Laundromat
You’re welcome to wait in-store — our laundromats are clean, bright and comfortable — or pop out and run an errand and come back. We do recommend returning promptly once your cycle finishes so others can use the machines.
Yes. Our locations have seating areas so you can relax while your laundry washes and dries. Many also have free Wi-Fi and good lighting — perfect for catching up on a few things.
Definitely. With multiple machines available you can run several washers and dryers at the same time to get all your laundry done in a single visit — great for families or bigger households.
Assistance animals are always welcome. For general pets, policies can vary by location — please check the signage at your local store or ask our team.
Yes — our laundromats provide trolleys to move your laundry between machines, plus folding benches so you can sort and fold before you head home.
Our Machines
We love our furry friends, but Blue Hippo stores don’t offer pet blanket washing facilities. To keep our laundromats fresh, clean and comfortable for everyone — especially customers with allergies and sensitivities—we ask that pet items aren’t washed in our standard machines.
An exception to this is our Norlane store, which has a dedicated pet blanket washer that has been part of the store offering for many years. While it’s still available there, pet washing facilities aren’t included in new Blue Hippo locations.
Thanks for helping us keep tails wagging and customers smiling! 🐾
Yes. Our large-capacity machines are ideal for doonas, comforters, sleeping bags and blankets that won’t fit in a home washer. We recommend the biggest washer available for the best clean and rinse.
Our laundromats are fitted with a range of machine sizes — from standard front-loaders right up to large-capacity washers that can handle doonas, blankets and bulky bedding. Look for the capacity label on the front of each machine, or ask our team if you need a hand choosing.
A standard wash cycle runs around 30–35 minutes, and drying usually takes 30–45 minutes depending on the load size and fabric. Larger items like doonas may need a little longer to dry fully.
Absolutely. Each machine has simple on-screen or panel instructions — just load your laundry, add detergent, select your cycle and pay. If it’s your first visit, our signage walks you through every step.
Pricing & Payment
Pricing varies by machine size and cycle. The exact cost is displayed on each machine before you start, so there are never any surprises. Larger machines cost a little more but can wash much bigger loads in one go.
Most of our machines accept contactless card and mobile payments, as well as coins at selected locations. Check the payment terminal on the machine, or look for the card reader near the machine bank.
Yes — single-use detergent and softener are available from the vending machines at most of our laundromats, so you can wash even if you’ve forgotten to bring your own.
We run seasonal promotions and special offers throughout the year. Head to our Deals page to see what’s currently on at your local Blue Hippo laundromat.
